From the top hairstylists to the most in-demand makeup artists, our beauty experts share their insider perspective on the latest hair and makeup tips and trends
Having thick, lustrous hair can be a gift from the heavens. However, if you don’t know how to take care of it, it can also be a constant struggle. I asked Premier Designer DENIS TRANSLADO of LURE Salon what the best haircuts and products are thick hair. Lustrous hair – achieved.
The key to achieving the best cut and appropriate products for your thick hair, you need to understand your natural texture and the ultimate outcome you wish to achieve with product; i.e. some people may have thick but fine hair or thick but coarse texture and it could be either straight or curly.
Best cuts for thick hair?
Ask for long layers to eliminate the weight! This will create sexy movement, increase manageability and still maintain the length. If the layers are too short it will become Rod Stewart circa 1982. Luckily for Rod, he’s the only one that can pull that off.
Best products to use to tame thick hair?
Peeps with thick hair will want to use moisture and silicone based products. Moisturizing shampoos, conditioners, intensive masks and leave in conditioners are staples that one must own! Hot Oil treatments won’t do. Silicone based products for styling will help to block humidity and keep hair smooth. New to market, try Royal Blowout from hair guru Oribe’s new line. His Supershine Leave-in-Conditioner is amazing as well. It has an iridescent pearl sheen to it that makes your hair luminous.
