I recently sat in the salon chair of hairdresser Allison Gauthier, taking my caramel brown summer colour to a much richer dark chocolate brown for Fall. So as I sat in the chair waiting to have my colour processed, I had to pick her brain. With 23 years in the business, she’s definitely a pro.

Trend alert…Long hair is coming back. For those with darker hair, I’m seeing lot more cool tones. Deep, rich, ashy. Charcoal and muddy.
Fave celeb hair… For the girls, I’d have to say Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Kim Kardashian (as a brunette not a blonde) and Lauren Conrad. I really love Lauren’s highlights, her hair is flowy, honey and golden. For guys, I’d have to say Bradley Cooper. By the way, Bradley, I heard you’re in town. Call me.
Fave colour line…I use a product called Goldwell. It gives lots of shine, the colour lasts and it doesn’t fade.
Love products from…Davines, Pureology, Bumble & Bumble and Kevin Murphy from Australia. For my own hair, I use Pureology’s PureVolume System, Davine’s Momo Cream – it’s called an anti-aging cream, you can use it before or after blow-drying and Kevin Murphy’s Anti-Aging Oil Free Voluminiser.
Tips for taking care of your colour… Get the proper products to maintain the colour. Like shampoo specifically for colour. You wouldn’t buy an outfit at Holt Renfrew and wash it with Sunlight dish soap!
Biggest pet peeve…If you can’t afford good extensions, don’t do it! If you can’t go blonde, don’t go blonde – orange is never good. And for the guys who maintain their own sideburns, please just talk to your hairdresser and get on a maintenance plan to avoid the jagged marks from doing it yourself.
Best part of being a hairdresser…I love to stay on top of trends, and the best part is when a client walks out and they love their hair.
