Best Of… Paris Fashion Week

And now… Paris *sigh*. I love Paris. This is the city where chic and sophisticated reign supreme. From the government to the cab drivers -everyone takes fashion seriously.
It’s the end, but somehow always feels like just the beginning…

Alexander McQueen…

Alexander McQueen’s last show was attended with heavy hearts during fashion week. The world was stunned to hear about his death in February -just weeks before the shows. Sarah Burton, his right hand, says he “had turned away from the world of the Internet, he wanted to get back to the handcraft he loved and was looking at the art of the Dark Ages, but finding light and beauty in it.”

Pheobe Philo Mania…

So here’s the deal. Pheobe Philo used to design for the fashion house Chloe and defined a whole generation of early 20-somethings who wanted to dress kinda pretty yet kinda rock ‘n’ roll. She was cool, the clothes were even cooler and the accessories were covet-worthy and still considered collectibles. In 2006 she left the company to spend more time with her family and the fashion world mourned forever… until… she announced her return, but this time as fashion director for Celine. She debuted a small resort collection last year and a full-on runaway show for Spring 2010. Both collections were heralded as the new, the now, and the best. For Fall 2010 she did it again. You’re probably already wearing her Spring looks, Zara based their entire spring collection on it… so be prepared to wear these looks come fall, guarantee.

Stella Love…

Okay, I LOVE Stella McCartney. I always want to buy everything she makes. This season she decided on austere basics in grey, black and camel mixed with lace, sheer fabrics and minimal makeup -so pretty much everything I’m into and how I dress on a regular basis.

The Sophisticates…

Casual yet formal @ Dries Van Noten
Full-on glamour (always) @ Lanvin
Dior’s New Look Marc Jacobs style @ Louis Vuitton

The Holy Trinity…

Sharp tailoring meets Parisian ski style @ Givenchy
Coco in cold weather @ Chanel
Religious symbolism @ YSL

The Kool Kids…

Hot and sexy @ Balmain
Casual yet classic and always a little futuristic @ Balenciaga
Think 1950s cool @ Isabel Marant

Freeze Frame…

1. New York’s party boy du jour Derek Blasberg has a knack for being at the right place and the right time. Check out his antics on
2. Tommy Ton of Jak & Jil also worked with this season. He captured the off runway scene in New York, London, Milan and Paris. See the fruits of his labour here.
3. Wanna see what the models wore when they weren’t stomping down the catwalk? Go here, here and here immediately.
4. Perpetual favourites and fashion world’s golden couple Scott Schuman and Garance Dore should be followed religiously regardless of fashion week.
