This week’s Girl of the Week is a fifth year theatre and art and culture studies student at SFU. DENISE MILLER is quite the adventurous one. She’s currently gearing up to explore Central America with her best friend in two weeks until April (awesome!). We’ve come to the agreement that packing is neither fun nor easy, but I’m sure her trip will be well worth the effort. Her interests include music, art, fashion and traveling. Meet Denise.
My personal style is…Full of colour. I love wearing lots of jewellery. I like to dress up at every opportunity I can. I definitely prefer to be too dressed up rather than too dressed down.
Best Christmas gift received…A blown up framed photograph of my favourite graffiti from Berlin.
New Year’s fashion/style resolutions…I want to learn to wear high heels properly! Saving up to buy a pair of Christian Louboutin classic pumps before the year ends. We’ll see what happens…
Going out outfit… It depends on where I am going. I love my favourite pair of jeans with a blouse tucked in or I could wear dresses everywhere and anywhere until the end of time. I have a beautiful pair of oxford flats that I love to wear out when it isn’t raining (so not much). And I always always wear jewellery! I rarely go anywhere without my favourite necklace on or my grandmother’s gold jade ring.
Repeat buy…Cheap Monday jeans and American Apparel plain V-neck T-shirts.
Favourite accessories…My Lisbeth gold ring necklace, my grandmother’s gold jade ring, and my big gold cuff I just inherited from my mom.
Top three favourite songs… “America” by Simon and Garfunkel, “Tangerine” by Led Zeppelin and “Grinnin’ In Your Face” by Son House (the live version!). “America” is probably my favourite song of all time because it’s about travelling and “Grinnin’ In Your Face” is a relatively new addition to the favourite songs list. “Wonderlust King” by Gogol Bordello also gets an honourable mention!
Next purchase…Probably nothing exciting fashion-wise because I am going to Central America. We are going to go bungee jumping into caves in Guatemala!
Skincare secret…All I rely on is moisturizer and no matter how tired you are, always wash your face before you go to bed and when you wake up in the morning.
Favourite thing about Vancouver… Living near the ocean. And when I leave to travel somewhere, I know home will always be here waiting for me when I get back.
I never leave the house without… My Marc Jacobs bag, which I love more than anything and more importantly my iPod. I need to have music with me at all times. I thought my iPod broke the other day and I literally thought I would have to run out and buy a new one that day.
