Here Comes The Sun

As we head into warmer weather it’s easy to get caught up in the days of sunshine and forget about protecting our skin. We all know sun exposure can cause serious damage to our skin and protecting your face with sunscreen is crucially important for keeping your skin healthy.

Sunscreens for the body and the face are quite different so it’s ideal to choose a sunscreen made specifically for the face. Face sunscreens won’t clog pores or cause breakouts. They are lighter and non greasy on the skin. They don’t leave your skin shiny and they’re invisible under makeup. Also they have a fresh, lighter scent than regular sunscreens.

You want to wear a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher and reapply every two hours. Apply face sunscreen before putting on makeup. You should apply sunscreen about 30 minutes prior to heading outside, since it takes about half an hour to absorb into the skin. Remember the SPF number doesn’t mean how much sun is blocked; it refers to how much time can be spent in the sun. So a higher SPF means you don’t have to apply as often.

To all the sun goddesses out there, it’s never too late to practice safe sun and start protecting your skin today.

  2. Sunscreen is a must year-round for me, not just in the summer (although I try to be more vigilant about SPF when there’s actually sun). Lately I’ve been loving mineral-based sunblocks and suncreens that are a mix of chemicals and minerals. While the chemical-based sunscreen absorbs into the skin, the mineral particles sit on the surface of the skin to deflect rays. I actually find the mineral-based stuff to be great for the face, particularly if you don’t touch your face during the day. The particles actually last until I wash my makeup off at night. :)

  3. I have to ask – if you wear a sunhat like the one in the photo, will you get a weird tan on your face from the pattern should your sunscreen wear off?

  4. Do you know if Aveeno is a physical sunscreen or a chemical sunscreen?
