Girl of the Week: Meghan Young
I met this week’s Girl of the Week as I was walking by the Aritzia Warehouse Sale lineup trying to see how long of a wait it was. Meghan Young (Twitter: @meghanyuriyoung) is a freelance writer and aspiring novelist from Toronto who moved to Vancouver for a boy. “Yes, I’m that girl”, says Meghan, “but until you hear my epic love story, you are not allowed to judge!” (A girl after my own heart. I love it.) When she’s not reading or writing, Meghan enjoys catching up on her favourite TV shows (she’s a fellow True Blood fan!), exploring the city, and watching as many movies as she can. Meet Meghan.
Wearing…I feel like a walking H&M ad. Everything is from there except for the bag, which is from Urban Outfitters, and my shoes, which I snagged from a vintage shop.
My personal style is…It really is whatever I feel at the moment. But that’s a pretty lame answer. So, to be more specific, I’m casual chic with a bohemian edge. I love being comfortable without being too unstructured. It’s always nice for your look to reflect how you feel inside.
Most memorable fashion purchase…That’s easy. A vintage cross-body leather saddle bag purse that I wore until the stitching gave out.
Beauty must-have…I must always, always, always have mascara on. My eyelashes are non-existent without them. Right now I’m loving Oriflame’s (Swedish brand) Wonder Lash Mascara. I also cannot live without my Moroccanoil hair treatment.
Favourite pair of shoes…Definitely Bass Chrissie shoes in cognac. They’re a simple, classic oxford that goes with pretty much any outfit.
Current wish list…Mulberry Bayswater bag. Just thinking about it makes my heart race and my mouth water. I. Want. One. So. Bad.
Drink of choice…Aside from lots and lots of water, I’m a tea drinker (both black and green). I’m not much of an alcohol drinker. I usually just get what the person next to me gets!
Favourite local hotspots…Can a movie theater be considered a hotspot? No? Well then, I’d have to say that I go to Kaide Sushi Bar at least once a week. Aside from that, I’m always trying out new spots. Keeps things super fresh.
Worn-out items…Everything I own is a worn-out item! I try to buy things that I absolutely love and then wear them to the ground. That’s also because I really like the vintage look.
Autumn essentials…Anything clean cut and tailored would be great for this fall, I think. A tailored blazer paired with simple, high heel army boots and you’ve got a lady-like look with some edge. Paint on a rich nail polish color like burgundy or red, and you’re good to go.
Three items in my bag…Burts Bee’s Tinted Lip Balm for a hint of color and tons of moisture. Life Oil Absorbing Sheets for a matte look and Goody Spin Pins in case I want to pull my hair into a loose bun.
One thing every girl should have…A basic white tee or tank. It goes with just about anything and can be worn casually or dressed up.
