Toronto: jacflash
Jacflash, a boutique on Toronto’s Queen St West is a trifecta of fashion, music and glamour. A well edited selection of contemporary brands from all over the world and a listening lounge to discover some really great tunes, this store is a fashion and music lover’s dream. I caught up with glam girl and jacflash owner, Jaclyn Genovese to find out more.
Tell us about your background and how jacflash came about
I was a classical vocal major in university, but was always into fashion, traveling and finding new/unique lines. I thought that when I graduated I would probably pursue music and then work in a boutique on the side. I soon realized I should just open my own boutique because I had to go to so many different places to find all of what I was after.
What brands do you carry and what are the price points?
We carry lines from all over the world. Style Stalker, Mink Pink and One Teaspoon from Australia, Shades of Grey, Spirithoods and Wildfox from LA, Ambre Babzoe from Paris, Scotch & Soda from Amsterdam, Low Luv and Bed Stu from NYC, Sretsis from Thailand, Cara Cheung from Toronto etc.
We have introduced many new lines in order to hit different price points and to reach many demographics while staying consistant with the “jacflash look”. We have dresses from $60 to $900 CAD, jeans from $75 to $295 CAD and shoes from $95 to $325 CAD.
As the store owner, how do you choose what to put in the store?
I chose what I love and what I would like to wear for myself as well as keeping in mind particular customers and body types.
Any unique/special items exclusive to your store?
We have many lines that are exclusive to jacflash in Canada including Spirit Hoods, Lovers & Friends, Style Stalker, Vamp Jewelry, Moon Raven Jewelry, Ambre Babzoe dresses, Sretsis, Mr. Kate, Dee & Ricky, and many more. We are also the only store to carry Toronto’s Cara Cheung jewelry and clothing.
What fall trends are currently flying off the shelves?
Anything leather and/or velvet, anything Style Stalker, knit sweaters (including Wildfox’s new knit collection), J brand wax jeans (in black, blue and rust), anything leopard and Spirit Hoods (we CANNOT seem to keep these in the store!).
Best part of being the owner of a fashion boutique?
It’s always exciting. I love meeting new people everyday, getting in new shipments, merchandising, dressing mannequins and all of the creative and promotional aspects of owning a store. I probably get the most gratification from watching someones face light up when they find just the piece they were looking for.
