Katrina Leppanen was about to watch her friend perform at the Fringe Festival when Anita snapped this photo of her. Katrina is a 19 year-old dancer who was born and raised in Vancouver. She spent a year dancing in New York and Toronto, and now that she’s back, her next two years will be spent doing the Arts Umbrella Graduate program. Katrina’s favourite food is butter on toast and she’s a vegetarian by default because she’s hated the taste of meat ever since she was a kid. Meet Katrina.
Wearing… A cardigan from Zellers, a white blouse from Sirens, (I’m wearing a black bodysuit from Capezio underneath), lace shorts from Zara, and my mom’s shoes, because she doesn’t like them.
Personal style… If I could get away with wearing my duvet out the door I would. Comfortable, simple, a bit dorky, and fun!
Most recent purchase… A gigantic burgundy cardigan from H&M.
Must-have beauty product… Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour Concealer, because it tricks people into thinking I’m fully awake.
3 autumn essentials… Oversized sweaters, knit scarves, and pumpkin pie (the most essential).
Most versatile item in your closet… I have a green and pink, monkey-printed, child’s size XL, footed onesie from Target that really shouldn’t be my most versatile item, but that I’ve shamefully realized I wear it more often than most classic “versatile items.” However, I think that any basic cardigan would be a close second.
How do you take your coffee… If only I liked coffee! I love the idea of it, but I can’t stand the taste. I hate tea, too, though I try it basically every other day, hoping I might wake up one morning loving it. If only hot chocolate was an acceptable, every morning kind of drink.
Your ideal Friday night… Movies, dancing, friends, strange adventures and/or sleeping.
I never leave house without… Clothes on? I’m so forgetful, it’s horrifying. I can usually remember to bring keys and my phone, but I’ve had to break into my own house more times than I’d like to admit, so even that’s a stretch!
The quality you most value in others… I love happy people! I think that sometimes we focus so much on the bad things in life that the good things pass us by and we don’t realize them. But if you can find contentment in all those wonderful little things, the big, bad, scary things are a lot easier to deal with. I really admire people who hold onto the good stuff and are optimistic; who smile and laugh instead of complain. It makes them invincible! (If you like cats – bonus points.)
Favourite book… I have so many! I just finished On The Island by Tracey Garvis Graves and Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell (if you haven’t seen the trailer for the movie, go watch it and try not to cry), and I loved them both. The Five People you Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom, The House at Riverton by Kate Morton, and The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin also come to mind.
Guilty pleasures… Procrastinating, Pretty Little Liars, Vanilla Caltrate Chewables, and watching the endless supply of strange cat videos people send me.
