Girl of the Week: Diana Chow

Diana Chow is a Toronto native who moved to Vancouver as of January. Science geek turned fashion and PR girl; Diana graduated 2011 from Wilfrid Laurier University with a B.Sc. in Psychology and Biology. She lived and worked in San Diego and LA post-graduation for 6 months last year doing entertainment PR. California is her second home, and her goal is to make it my first! A permanent travel bug with a passion for fashion and weakness for shoes, Diana’s love for food just might be greater than anything else. She loves a good book and a great cup of coffee and loves trying and learning new things. Meet Diana.

Wearing… Jacket from Oak + Fort, pants and button-up blouse from Talula Babaton, shoes and necklace from Forever 21, watch from Michael Kors and purse from Marc by Marc Jacobs.

My personal style is… Simple and eclectic. I’m not one to buy things with frills, bows, or any other bells and whistles. I like versatile pieces that are easily worked into many different outfits and that can be worn time and time again. Realistically, I should never be having the “I have nothing to wear!” dilemma in the mornings, but I still do – ALL the time! At the end of it all, I dress according to my mood or activities for the day. Functionality is key!

Style inspiration… I definitely frequent a lot of fashion blogs (my favourite has got to be Sincerely Jules), but I gather a lot of inspiration from the people I work with – they are a stylish bunch! I also peruse sites like Refinery29, Independent Fashion Bloggers, and several fashion-related Tumblr pages.

First memorable fashion purchase… This wasn’t as much of a “first” fashion purchase as much as it was a memorable one, but my Mackage leather jacket would have to take the cake. I’ve bought memorable shoes and purses before, but the Mackage was the very first leather jacket I ever owned. I figured I would only really need to purchase ONE go-to leather jacket in my life, and the “Kenya” motorcycle style one was definitely it!

Skincare secret… My skincare regimen is very simple, but I think the one thing that gets me through a long day of work is oil-blotting sheets! St. Ive’s Apricot Scrub is also a great exfoliator that gets out all the impurities, yet gentle enough to use daily.

Top 3 autumn essentials… A ridiculously oversized and chunky scarf, the perfect pair of ankle boots (I’m contemplating on purchasing my very first pair of Rachel Comeys – should I?), and a pair of coloured denim (Rag & Bone has a great colour selection, and – bonus – they’re so comfy)!

Favourite pair of shoes… This is like asking a mother who her favourite child is! Currently, it’s a tight race between my Forever 21 suede heeled ankle boots and my new Aldo leather flat ankle boots. Both are comfy enough for being on my feet for more than eight hours, and go with everything!

Most versatile item in your closet… Currently, it would definitely be my Oak + Fort jacket in the photo! I love the length and cut of it, plus it’s so easy to style both casually or dressy. I could wear it with a dress or a pair of denim, and the collarless neckline makes it great to pair with collared shirts. The major plus: pockets!

You take your coffee… With a truckload of sugar and half-and-half. I’m surprised I’m not diabetic yet!

Current mood… Motivated! I’m at a point in my life where I want to advance and make some moves in my career. Where this will take me, I don’t know… but I’m definitely determined to find my place. I’m also quite hungry. But let’s be honest, that’s all the time.

Dream vacation… I’m torn between a relaxing trip to somewhere tropical – complete with a white sandy beach with clear blue waters (I’ve never seen one in real life!) – or a trek around Europe. There’s something so beautiful about the history and architecture behind European countries and cities. I would spend a month in each country if I could… soaking in the culture, trying different foods, and seeing different places!

3 items to have on a deserted island… Chapstick, another human being (one who I can tolerate and vice versa… so that we don’t end up killing each other!), and an endless supply of food. I know, my last two “items” might be considered cheating…don’t tell.

Words to live by… “Be kind, for every person you meet is fighting a great battle.”
