Step-by-Step: 3 Easy Holiday Hair Looks in Under 15 Minutes with Trim Salon

With Christmas parties in full swing and a new year parties just ahead, spending a little extra time on your hair is a holiday do. To help you along, we stopped to chat with Sarah Stach, owner and stylist at Trim Hair Salon, a 2 1/2 year old salon in Vancouver’s South Main district. Here Sarah and her team put together three special holiday hair looks that can be accomplished in just 15 minutes. Learn how to do the Side Swept Sophistication, Festive French Twist and Holi-Day 2 Hair.

Look 1: Side Swept Sophistication

Prep: After washing hair, apply a heat protecting product.
Step 1: Rough blow dry hair and back comb at crown.
Step 2: Curl hair – it doesn’t need to be perfect- just to give some body, and wave and can be done in big sections. Try this YouTube Tutorial for curling hair.
Step 3: Twist/roll together hair starting just behind your ear, adding more hair to the twist as you move across the back of the head. Clip twist to the side that will be left down.
Step 4: Criss cross bobby pins securing twist to the root of your hair.
Step 5: Remove clip once twist is secure.

Look 2: Festive French Twist
Look1 Prep: After washing hair- apply a heat protecting product. We recommend Kevin Murphy Damage Manager.
Step 1: Rough blow dry hair and back comb at crown.
Step 2: Curl hair. This doesn’t need to be perfect- just to give some body and can be done in big sections.
Step 3: Using your fingers like a comb, comb back one side of hair and pin at back in centre of head.
Step 4: Criss cross bobby pins to secure hair at back of head so they stay in place.
Step 5: Again using your fingers, comb back the other side and roll hair all together to make the shape of the roll in the photo.
Step 6: Hold roll with one hand, and pin with other- make sure the pins cross over with the pins you first put in the hair, so it locks in place.
Step 7: Enjoy a cocktail.

Look 3: ‘Holi-day-2 hair’

Look3bPrep: After washing hair- apply a heat protecting product. Another great product AVEDA Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair.
Step 1: Rough blow dry hair and back comb at crown.
Step 2: Curl hair – try using a curl rod instead of an iron for simplicity sake. Spray curls with light hairspray like AVEDA Air Control Hairspray.
Step 3: Shake your curls to loosen them a little, and then take them out to a party.
Step 4: Sleep on the curls.
Step 5: Wake up with ‘slept on curls’ and spray into your root area some dry shampoo. Try Kevin Murphy Fresh Hair Dry Cleaning Spray.
Step 6: Brush hair and see how it looks. Likely it doesn’t need to be touched up, but if it does, just do a couple areas that are the least wavy.
Step 7: Enjoy all of the time you saved!

  1. Sarah’s so talented at what she does, and TRiM is an adorable space. We also collaborated on a couple of holiday tutorials: one for an easy braided updo and one for a 3D braid/side knot.
