Fashion really is cyclical; denim skirts are back. I haven’t seen them around for quite a few years, and I’m so happy to see that they’ve come back and are better than ever. In their latest iteration they’re (thankfully) a lot chicer than the super short, ripped versions I used to buy in multiples from Abercrombie and Fitch any chance I got to cross the border. The 2015 version comes in multiple shapes, styles and hues, but my favourite is the pencil skirt. I love that denim is so versatile and can be worn just about everywhere (including many offices) and the fact that you can now get it in the classic pencil skirt silhouette is very exciting!
I predict that come spring you’ll be seeing tons of well dressed girls sporting fun denim skirts, so why not get on the trend before everyone else? Here are four versions that I’m loving right now.
Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren Skate Skirt, $40.27 CAD (sale), Hudson’s Bay – This skirt is a fun mix between sweet and sexy with it’s A-line shape and coated faux leather fabric. You could wear this now with tights, booties and a slouchy sweater, and into the spring with a T-shirt or tank top.
Pull-On Denim Mini Skirt, $24.95 CAD, GAP – It makes sense that The Gap would have an amazing version for an incredibly affordable price. The dark denim rinse helps to make this skirt super versatile; you can dress it up for date night with a silky top and heels, down with a half-tucked in t-shirt and ballet flats, or (depending on your office dress code) to work with a crisp button down and fun statement accessories.
1969 Denim Pencil Skirt, $29,99 CAD (sale), GAP – Another Gap find, but this one is more on the casual side. The faded colouring help to give this fun skirt a vintage vibe, and I would play that up by styling it with a band tee or go super casual by topping it with an oversized sweatshirt.
Jeweled Denim Skirt, $116.86 CAD, LOFT – Leave it to Loft to make a basic more interesting. Jeweled items are still big and I like that this one is relatively subtle. I’d take a cue from the brand’s styling and keep the rest of your look a bit more subdued to let the skirt have center stage. A white t-shirt or button down would look chic, and nude wedges or ballet flats would look great for footwear.
