Whether for business or pleasure, jetting off to faraway destinations can be thrilling. But admittedly, the in-flight journey can be trying at times. With small cramped seats, limited legroom, and your fellow passenger reclining their seat all the way back in your face, flying can be challenging and uncomfortable. Here are some everyday luxuries that I always take with me on board to maximize my in-flight comfort.

Bose-QuietComfort-Noise-Cancelling-HeadPhones-Black QuietComfort, 25 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones, $329.99 CAD, Bose

Noise cancelling headphones… Some of these (like the Bose version) are an investment, but if you travel often, it might be a smart investment to make so that you can quiet down the ambient noise, tune out and relax to your favourite tunes or Pod cast. The Bose headphones are pricey but they are considered the Concord of noise cancelling headphones.

Elle-Canada-Magazine-Cover-August-2015-Carly-Rae-JepsenCandy and a good read… Whenever I travel, it’s one of my rituals to hit up the Hudson News shop at the airport for candy and magazines. Sometimes if I’m organized, I’ve already picked up a package of my favourite candy, Haribo Star Mix, at London Drugs beforehand. I know it’s bad for you, but sugar is just downright comforting on a long-haul flight. As for reads, if mags are too heavy to carry, consider downloading online versions of your fave mags from digital magazine subscription services like Next Issue Canada or Zinio.

Clinique-MoistureSurge-FaceSprau-BottleClinique’s Moisture Surge Face Spray, $27 CAD, Sephora

Facial spray… We all know that the not-so-lovely circulated air in the cabin doesn’t do anything for your skin’s hydration. Freshen up and keep your skin soft and supple with a spritz of moisturizing facial spray every few hours. My favourite is the Clinique Moisture Surge Face spray. It’s a facial hydration life saver.

Aritzia-Wilfred-Mix-Stripes-Blanket-ScarfWilfred Mixed Stripes Blanket, $75 CAD, Aritzia

Blanket Scarf… This is quintessential when the cabin gets too chilly. I personally find the blankets that they give you on the plane a bit icky so I prefer to bring my own.

Chapters-Travelocity-TravelPillowTravelocity Travel Pillow in Black, $20 CAD, Chapters

Travel pillow… A comfortable place to rest your head is key when you have to sit sleep on a long-haul flight. Give your neck some support and prevent your head from rolling side to side and embarrassingly onto your seat passenger’s shoulder. Also reusable if you’re planning on a bus tour at your destination.
