I live for drugstore mascara and a great nail polish for $5 that can achieve the same thing as a salon manicure. Discovering a new beauty dupe is a thrill! However, some beauty investments are totally worth the splurge. Besides, is there anything more worth investing in than yourself?
We’ve rounded up some of the best beauty investments you can make for yourself from sitting in a salon chair to products you can add to your vanity and makeup bag.
Invest in skin treatments: facials or laser
Nothing beats great skin because the thing is, even your makeup is only as beautiful as your skin. Think of it this way, the better you take care of your skin on a topical and below-the-surface level, the less money you will have to spend on unnecessary skincare products. Taking the time to book yourself in for a regular treatment will really simplify your day-to-day skincare routine.
Invest in great skincare
Like I said, if you take good care of your skin, you’ll find fewer need for many more products than a great cleanser, serum and sunscreen to maintain your skin’s health in between your facials or laser treatments. Everyone’s skin is so different and we have different needs so, find the products that best work for your skin and treat yourself. Here are a few of my personal faves that are most certainly worth a try:
Charlotte Tilbury Multi-Miracle Glow Cleanser Mask & Balm for Baby Soft Skin, $81.98 CAD, Nordstrom
Elizabeth Arden Superstart Skin Renewal Booster, $88.81 CAD, Nordstrom
Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Replenishing Cleaning Oil, $49.19 CAD, Nordstrom
Invest in an amazing foundation
These are considered two of the best in the biz. You may not consider them for a day-to-day foundation but they would be perfect to save for special occasions or if you’re attending an event where you know a lot of photos will be taken. These foundations are known for giving skin an airbrushed finish.
Giorgio Armani Silk Luminous Foundation, $68 CAD, Sephora
Dior Diorskin Airflash Spray Foundation, $72 CAD, Sephora
Invest in teeth whitening
Your smile is typically one of the first things people notice when they see you and can make a lasting first impression. Even if you’re not up for professional whitening at the dentist, I always have Crest Whitening Strips on hand for regular whitening maintenance that I can do at home.
Crest 3D White Whitestrips Luxe – Glamourous White 14 Treatments, $49.99 CAD, London Drugs
Invest in your haircuts & hair colouring
You wear your hair literally every single day, obviously. So why not invest in it? Your cut and colour can completely change up your look and there are just too many ‘at-home’ haircuts and colour attempts that have not ended well. Collaborating with your hairstylist is sure to get the best result as opposed to you trying it out at home on your own.
Invest in a quality & speedy hair tool
A quality blow dryer, straightener or curling wand is so worth investing in once and then it will last you for years. A great hair tool is much better at keeping your hair healthy and can give you quick results so that you won’t have to go over certain sections multiple times, causing damage and wasting your precious time. These tools are guaranteed to get the job done:
Drybar Buttercup Blow-Dryer, $266.43 CAD, Nordstrom
GHD Classic 1 Inch Styler, $199 CAD, Sephora
Invest in laser hair removal
You would no longer have to shave so you could say goodbye to razor burn and never feel unprepared when invited to a beach or pool party. There’s a real comfort in knowing you’re always smooth and hair-free. Not going to lie, a few spots can be uncomfortable, a la armpits and the bikini area, but it only lasts a couple of seconds and it’s so worth it in the long run. It helps to have a chatty esthetician to keep you distracted or bring a friend to gossip with throughout your appointment.
