Cozy Up: My Must-Have Comforts For A Night In

I’ll be the first to admit, when it comes to going out and hitting “the scene,” I’m more POMO than FOMO. I’m a total homebody through and through. Just put me in my PJs, hand me a cup of tea, and turn on Netflix, because all of that together just makes me one super happy girl. And with the recent rain and wind storms on the west coast, staying in has never felt so blissful.

Cozy nights in are even better when you have these essentials to make turning down that raucous night out totally worthwhile. Here are my must-have comforts.

Loungewear… First things first, if you’re staying in, you gotta be comfortable. I’m totally into the softness and elasticized waistband of these TNA Bourdain pants. So lovely and so very night-in appropriate. A matching super soft tee is the perfect accompaniment, and of course don’t forget a cozy pair of slippers for your feet (hardwood and tile floors are cold, right?)

Tea (and lots of it)… I am a huge tea drinker and a lover of English Breakfast, green and oolong tea. I like it pretty basic and tend to shy away from flavoured teas that taste like birthday cake or chocolate bars. The essentials of a great tea experience are a terrific mug (this Tea Freak Mug speaks to me on so many levels), your favourite tea (my faves are Japanese Green Tea from Osaka supermarket and French Breakfast by Mariage Frères) and of course a tea kettle. We got the Breville Kettle as a wedding gift, and boy is it delightful. From white to black tea, this smart kettle knows the ideal temperature for different types of tea and boils the water according to that temperature, resulting in the perfect cup of tea. This kettle is definitely for the tea lovers.

A throw… Hey, lounging on the couch can get chilly so there’s nothing like a soft throw to keep you warm. This herringbone throw in glacial gray is a great neutral hue which provides a nice accent to a dark sofa when not in use.

Netflix (obviously)… No night in is complete without something solid to watch. I’ve just gotten into the first season of American Crime and it is so good. We’re also a big fan of documentaries having to do with food and travel, so if you haven’t yet, check out Chef’s Table, Cooks Abroad and Mind of a Chef. And, to my husband’s protest, we also watched Justin Timberlake and the Tennessee Kids, capturing the final night of JT’s 20/20 world tour. It’s a real musical gem if you’re a JT fan.

Here’s to more nights in than out.
