Mascara
Shelf Life… 2 to 3 months.
When to toss it… As soon as your mascara starts to get clumpy or you notice it smells weird.
Tip… Mark your tube of mascara with the date you open it so that you can keep track of when it was opened and when to throw it out. If you tend to pump your wand in and out a lot, your mascara will expire even quicker.

Lotion
Shelf Life… 2 years.
When to toss it… A change in colour or scent is a dead giveaway for expired lotion.
Tip… A bottle with a pump with less prone to airborne bacteria and will last longer and is more sanitary compared to a lotion in a jar.

Liquid Foundation
Shelf Life… 6 to 12 months.
When to toss it… Once it has separated into layers or the colour has lightened.

Lipstick vs. Lipgloss
Shelf Life… 2 years for lipstick and 1 year for gloss.
When to toss it… If your lipstick has become dry or your gloss is extra sticky.

Powders: Foundation, Blush & Eyeshadow
Shelf Life… 2 years.
When to toss it… Expired powders have a different texture than new ones, expired ones will be more dry and flaky.

Nail Polish
Shelf Life…1 to 2 years.
When to toss it… Once it’s extra goopy or has separated into layers and won’t blend after a quick shake.
Tip… Pick up a nail polish thinner, it’s a cheap and easy way to increase the longevity of your polishes.

Eye & Lip Pencils
Shelf Life… 6 Months
Tip… Sharpen your pencils every other use that way they stay fresh and free of bacteria.

Claim to fame… A soft focus highlighter for the face that switches on the “wow” factor with a delicate champagne glow.

Formulation… The luminizer is in the form of a creamy stick that glides on easily and melts into skin.

How I used it… After applying foundation, concealer, and a bit of blush. I rolled the luminizer on the back of my hand a couple times to warm it up and then dabbed it on my cheeks, brow bone and down the center of my nose.

The result… A shimmery yet soft champagne highlight that made my face luminous.

Good to know… There’s a blending sponge on the other end of the luminizer stick that you can use to blend the luminizer into your skin. I found it a bit hard to the touch and preferred to just use my fingers instead.

Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelle, $22 CAD, Sephora – I love the idea of cheek stain, but I find it often goes on a heavy or blotchy, and once it’s on, it’s really on, so you have to work fast. That’s what I love about this coconut cheek gelle. It offers really buildable coverage in really natural colours. Plus, summer bonus, you won’t be sweating it off. Berry Bliss, a bit of a darker colour, is my favourite.

KORRES Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Lip Cooler, $19 CAD, Sephora -  Around this time of year when the seasons start to change, I get majorly chapped lips. Often, even with balm, they’re too chapped for gloss or lipstick. I’ve been looking for a new lip treatment and I’m kind of digging this new one from Korres. Yeah, the rollerball in the middle of the applicator is a little gimmicky, but the formula really does sooth my lips, and the colours are very sheer and natural looking, which I love.

Sephora Collection Skin Perfect CC Cream SPF 20, $26 CAD, Sephora -  BB, CC, ABC; I’m not totally sure what the differences are, except that Sephora’s new CC cream has sunscreen, where the BB I’ve been wearing for the last few months, does not. An essential addition in my opinion. The price point is also something to get excited about. If you’re looking for affordable, light summer coverage, look no further.

Matthew Williamson – The Rich is Back! $34 CAD, Sephora -  A few years back, Matthew Williamson did an amazing summer collection for H&M. This summer he’s back with a beach ready, disco-inspired collection for Sephora. Gloss, bronzer, mascara and a beautiful eyeshadow palate. The size also makes it the perfect palate to travel with. Williamson’s collection isn’t out yet, so check for it in stores next month.

Her sartorial debut feels refreshing and chic, unlike many of the current overdone options available at other retailers.  Western influences like fringe and suede still pervade the aesthetic, but the stylite interprets the look with a more subdued and modern iteration of the boho pieces so famously worn at said music events.  Standout pieces include a suede burnt-orange dress, which Bosworth told ELLE was inspired by a piece of lace found at Portobello market, and a gauzy silver maxi dress perfect for keeping your cool during sundrenched sets.    I also love the Tibetan inspired vest, the relaxed boyfriend cut denim and tees, and her ethereal accessories including a pair of angel wings.

Bosworth also stars as the face of the campaign in a dreamy video directed by her fiancé, Michael Polish.  Along with the festival set, TOPSHOP will host secret pop-up gigs across the globe featuring a plethora of underground acts.  We can’t wait to get the inside scoop.

Nivea for Men Extreme Comfort Shaving Gel, Approx. $4 CAD, Shoppers Drug Mart -  When you think about it, do you really need to pay an extra five dollars for your legs to smell briefly like strawberries and cream? Recently I’ve made the switch to men’s shaving gel. Since guys are (presumably) using it on their face, it’s great if you have sensitive skin. Your wallet will also thank you.

Gillette MACH 3 Turbo Razor, Approx. $19.99 CAD, Shoppers Drug Mart – These are amazing. The blades last forever, and you get a much closer shave than you would with the woman’s counterpart, as these razors are designed to take down beards and not softer leg hair. The only drawback I can find so far, is that you have to be a little more careful when shaving, and stick to short strokes, so it takes a little longer. Still, I guarantee you won’t go back to women’s razors.

 Dove Men+Care Dual Sided Shower Tool, Approx. $7 CAD, Shoppers Drug Mart – It’s not just guys’ skin that needs TLC, and by that I mean Tough Loving Care. The Shower Tool has both a loofah (in a manly grey. No pink here), and a scrubber for skin that needs a little extra. It’s perfect for this time of year, when my skin gets pretty dry.

Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb, $75 CAD, Sephora – I’ve always loved to wear Men’s cologne, and I’ve written about it before (Givenchy’s Pi is one of my all time favourites). Spicebomb is the new men’s fragrance from the company that brought you the it perfume of last year, Flowerbomb. Spicebomb is a little deeper and more earthy. It reminds me of cinnamon candy, but a little lighter. Great for both men and women.
